Liberals will fight the railway

LightRail_Web_Blog2

ALISTAIR Coe has committed the Canberra Liberals to opposing light rail in the ACT.

“Even by the government’s own modelling, the patronage forecasts are very low and do not warrant the biggest capital outlay the ACT government has ever committed. Furthermore, people living within the Northbourne Avenue corridor are already serviced well by ACTION buses,” Alistair said.

“The light rail route doesn’t even include any national institutions, the convention centre or other prominent locations such as universities, Russell offices, the airport or Barton.”

Alistair contends the projected $600 million dollar cost (even before over runs) is not good value for money and has vowed opposition all the way to the 2016 election.

By 2016 construction is planned to be well underway.
