WHERE do our many talented Canberra stars of musical theatre end up?

Some stay at home. Others like Damien Bermingham end up in the cast of big shows like “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Strictly Ballroom.”

But former local theatre and cabaret performer, Erica Bowron has outdone them all.

Bowron may have been in chaste shows like “Chicago,” “Carousel” and “Sweet Charity,” but now she’s the lead singer with the heavy metal band Domino, and they’re coming to town soon.

“Nothing like a change,” Bowron tells  “CityNews” as she explains how Domino has cornered the market in Arabesque Progressive Metal, “an almost middle-Eastern progressive metal sound that has been likened frequently to that of Led Zeppelin and The Tea Party.”

They’ll be “back in the old stomping ground” to support the group’s debut full-length album, and it’s got Bowron thinking about the good old days when she performed with our very own Lt. Col Ian McLean, notably as a dancer with the RMC Band’s nationally televised Christmas 2000 “Tour of Duty” concert in East Timor with Kylie Minogue, John Farnham and Doc Neeson.

After a 2008 EP, “Shadows and Dust,” she says, Domino have released a debut album, “Where the Desert Meets the Sea”, It was recorded and mixed by Jeff Cripps at A Sharp Studios in Sydney and mastered by Don Bartley who has worked with the likes of Metallica and INXS.

Bowron talks the talk as she speaks of “Domino’s maturation into a heavier, more seductive sound while maintaining their unique brand of majestic Arabesque Progressive Metal.” One reviewer has described “a mixture of seduction and mystique… an epic amount of raw ability, substance and character.”

Bowron’s driving, ‘belting’ style is evident in the first single from the album, “Caravan,” can be seen with a haunting video filmed by Nima Nabili Rad.

Bowron, who says she can’t wait to bring the band here to play for the Canberra metal scene tells us, “The raw passion in hard rock and metal is cathartic and singing my own way in a band that is like family is the ultimate.”
