CANBERRA’S  Yowie Productions —what a great name—is set to release their short film “The White Feather”; another great name.

The company’s name goes back to their 2010 film “The Yowie”, directed by Jenz Hertzum and written by Laurence Anderson won Best Cinematography and The Award of Merit at the Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood. Amazingly, for  an Australian Short film it was also offered two international distribution deals.

“The White Feather” is  set in  Bungendore, Sydney and Flanders and it  tells “a patriotic tale of passion and betrayal, and moves between Australia and the European war front”.  It brings together a talented Australian team, authentic costumes and local settings like historic Kenmore Hospital in Goulburn, Calthorpe’s House and Lanyon Homestead in Canberra. Dawn Waterhouse of  Calthorpes’ House will be present at the film’s opening.

The film, producer Marie Anderson told Citynews, has broad audience appeal and is already garnering a strong social-media fan base. They’re positioning themselves to meet an Australia-wide market for the WW1 Centenary this year and the Gallipoli Centenary next year. As Anderson said, “the young ones want to see any films on WW1/ Gallipoli that are relevant, the older group are keen to revisit the era.”

“The White Feather” begins during October, 1914 in  Bungendore, New South Wales, where the two Ellis brothers from Shelbourne, the biggest local sheep station, are in love with the two daughters of the local doctor. After various romantic twists in the plot the two brothers,  Albert and  Eddie, goes off to the war, and …you’ll have to see it. For a short film, it has  quite an elaborate plot.

Director  and writer Laurence de B Anderson is a doctor, an exhibiting visual artist for more than 30 years, and the author of  several books. He has been studying and making films since 2000.

Among the other creatives are Miguel P Gallagher,  Director of Photography, Patrick J Gallagher, 1st Assistant Director and  Rohan Dadswell, Gaffer /Lighting.
