Mark Fraser takes over as Official Secretary to the Governor-General

Government House, Governor General

THE Governor-General Peter Cosgrove has announced the appointment of Mark Fraser as his Official Secretary.

Mr Fraser has been Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General for the past five and a half years.

Mr Fraser’s appointment, which takes effect on 27 June 2014, follows the departure of Mr Stephen Brady CVO, who will shortly take up an appointment as Australian Ambassador to the French Republic.

The Governor-General said Mr Brady has done an outstanding job as Official Secretary for almost six years.

“Through his sophisticated, nuanced and professional advice, Stephen has contemporised operations, improved accountability and performance, and achieved new levels of outreach and engagement by this Office,” the Governor-General said.

Mr Fraser comes to the role with 20 years of public sector experience, including as Consul-General in the Netherlands (2004-2007) and Consul in Turkey (1998-2001).
