AS part of a heroic effort to get the National Aria back on track, local opera singer Fleur Millar has organised a master class with a difference, to take place this weekend in in the Larry Sitsky Room at the School of Music.

This Australian National Eisteddfod event is the “Ghillian Sullivan Master Class Singing in Competition”. The performance will see six advanced singing students in the master-class with Sullivan, a noted soprano who is now the artist director of Festival Opera (Newcastle). Students Claire Silvester, Orlie Beer, David Smith, Helen Fisher, Claire Hedley and Livia Brash will be accompanied by former Head of Voice at the School, Alan Hicks.

Millar, an Australian National Eisteddfod convener, sees the event as being “an excellent opportunity to see a consummate performer who is deeply committed to performing at the highest level.” As well, Millar says, the event will be a precursor to the resuscitated Australian National Eisteddfod Aria in 2015.

Lovers of fine singing are encouraged to attend as paying observers, thus supporting the Aria.

Ghillian Sullivan Master class Singing in Competition, Larry Sitsky Room, ANU School of Music, 2.30-5.30pm Sunday July 27. Bookings to 6249 7421, or tickets at the door.
