Melrose High gets a new bicycle dirt track

Melrose bike track

JOY Burch and Paralympian Michael Milton today officially opened the Melrose High School’s new dirt bike track.

The track, which is the first stage of a $105,000 project, has been built in a previously unused area of the school grounds and will be used for both education and general exercise.

“This track has been designed to cater for all skill levels, from little ones who are learning to ride their first bicycle to the more adventurous cyclist,” Ms Burch said.

“This track will become an important part of school life, and a valuable asset for the local community as it can be used before and after school and on weekends.

Stage one of the project included the ‘dirt’ track, shade trees, native understorey plants, an automatic irrigation system and signage.

Stage two will see a shipping container relocated for use as a workshop and storage facility, shade sails, seating, a water refill station and bike racks.
