MICK Gentleman joined Canberrans gathered in Garema Place today for a special selfie session to support Dementia Awareness Month, organised by Alzheimer’s Australia ACT and designed to raise awareness of its Memory Walk and Jog on Sunday 21 September.
“September is Dementia Awareness Month and this year’s theme is ‘Creating a dementia-friendly nation’,” Mick said.
“Today’s event was a great way to use the power of social media to spread awareness of the month and the Memory Walk and Jog.”
Those attending the event in Garema Place were given a special pair of shoelaces by Memory Walk and Jog national mascot Al the Elephant and then asked to take a photo to share on social media.
“Something a lot of people don’t know is that dementia can also affect younger people, with around 23,900 Australians living with younger, on-set dementia in 2011. This makes dementia a condition that can affect all of us.
“I’d encourage people to show their support for fundraising by either registering for the Memory Walk and Jog or donating to the cause.”
