New developments in Polish Club fire probe

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a fire at the Polish White Eagle Club in O’Connor last week after a metal jerrycan was found at the scene.

Around 2.05am on Tuesday, January 21, police responded to reports of a structure fire at the Polish White Eagle Club on David Street in O’Connor.

ACT Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire and handed over the scene to police once it had been established as suspicious.

A metal jerrycan has been located within the debris of the club and police are appealing for anyone who may have seen someone around the time of the fire carrying a jerrycan or filling one up at a service station.

The safe which was stolen from the club at the time has not been recovered.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in O’Connor on Tuesday, January 21, or can assist police with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
