New monuments for the War Memorial

THE War Memorial have set an interesting precedent, bringing home the memorials used by Australian troops in the long struggle in Afghanistan.

The two memorials from Australia’s Defence bases in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan formed the basis of Australian Defence personnel’s’ commemorative ceremonies at both Camp Holland and Camp Russell. They were used for various ceremonies such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day and were also used during special services held to farewell comrades killed in action and hold a special place for our Afghanistan deployed servicemen.

The memorials will be on special display at the entrance to the Australian War Memorial before being relocated to the sculpture garden, where they will be used for commemorative services.
