QUEANBEYAN Council is moving forward with new plans to bring the river into the heart of the city.
A new pedestrian bridge over the Queanbeyan River, a green space in Queen Elizabeth Park, the installation of a plaza area for markets and other events and enhanced pedestrian/cycle paths are just part of the draft concept design for Stage 2 of Queanbeyan’s CBD improvements.
The plans will now go on public display until 9 May 2014.
“The draft concept plans are very exciting and would certainly achieve Council’s goals of enhancing the river precinct and attracting more residents and visitors to the area,” Mayor, Tim Overall said.
“It must be said that in its present state, Queen Elizabeth Park is not an attractive place for residents or visitors to frequent and we want to change that perception. The ideas in the draft plans will certainly achieve that and I look forward to seeing what the community’s thoughts are on the plans.”
