New traffic lights for Sternberg Crescent

SHANE Rattenbury says new part-time traffic signals have been installed on the eastern approach to the Sternberg Crescent and Erindale Drive roundabout to complete stage 1 of upgrades to Ashley and Erindale Drive.

“The lights will improve the flow of traffic at the roundabout in the morning peak period and will be switched on from Friday 3 October at 7:45am,” Shane said.

“The lights will typically operate from 7.45 am to 9 am Monday to Friday however these timings may be tweaked over time to ensure the lights are working harmoniously with traffic conditions. Supportive signage has been installed to make sure motorists know when the traffic lights are active. This signage will flash when the traffic lights are red or yellow.”

“The lights are part of a $7million upgrade to address congestion and delays that drivers experience at key intersections on Ashley Drive and Erindale Drive during the morning and afternoon peak.

“Stage one work has included duplication of Erindale Drive between Sternberg Crescent and Ashley Drive; introduction of left slip turn lanes on Erindale Drive (southbound) at the approaches to both Sternberg Crescent and Ashley Drive; and installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Ashley Drive and McBryde Crescent.

Mr Rattenbury said with stage 1 upgrade work now complete, the ACT Government was now designing a second phase of work.

“Stage 2 design is currently being completed and construction work is subject to future funding. The project will involve the duplication of Ashley Drive with additional off-road shared paths adjacent to Ashley Drive and Isabella Drive.

The design phase will include opportunities for feedback from the community. More details on consultation opportunities will be released in October 2014 with comments sought over a six week period throughout November and December.
