JAZZ-lovers will unite this evening at The Street Theatre for the launch of Geoff Page’s jazz memoir, “Aficionado,” published by Picaro Press.
Popular American bassist, Eric Ajaye, one of the leading jazz personalities of Canberra over his many years teaching at the ANU School of Music, will do the honours.
Page expects a good turnout of jazz and poetry-lovers and notes that although it is a prose work, he also plans to present a collaborative performance of some of the jazz poems from the book’s second part.
“Aficionado”, praised by jazz artist Mike Nock as “a wonderful journey through Australian jazz culture from 1956 to the present time,” was also launched at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival recently by John McBeath, jazz critic for the Australian, with Tom Botting, the New Zealand bassist, with Page also presenting a selection of the poems.
“Aficionado” launch, at The Street Theatre. Today, Wed Nov 19 at 5.45 for 6pm, rsvp to ushers@the street.org.au
