CHIEF Minister Gallagher has announced a new StudyCanberra student intern program between Canberra and Shenzhen to attract the best and brightest students from Shenzhen to Canberra and give local students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in Shenzhen.

The Canberra-Shenzhen Innovation Intern Exchange Program is the first education outcome of the historic MOU signed between the ACT Government and Shenzhen.

“The MOU I signed last week seeks to enhance cultural and economic ties between Canberra and Shenzhen and this StudyCanberra program is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the cultures of each city, plus give students the chance to learn in some of the most innovative companies And organisations in the world,” Katy said.

Two students from Canberra will be able to travel to Shenzhen and two Shenzhen based students will come to Canberra as part of the program.

The ACT Government contribution to the first four placements – two from Canberra and two from Shenzhen – will be $30,000. The cost of airfares, internship costs and living expenses will be shared between Governments and business in Canberra and Shenzhen.

“The first stage the program will bring together future leaders from Canberra and Shenzhen, who will be placed for an internship in a leading Shenzhen business and provided with accommodation throughout the duration of the placement,” the Chief Minister said.

Applications for the StudyCanberra internship program will open soon with a view to the exchanges taking place during 2015.
