POLICE are investigating the cause of a fire at the Polish White Eagle Club in O’Connor at about 2am this morning.
Around 2.05am, police responded to reports of a structure fire at club on David Street and arrived to find a significant amount of smoke coming from the rear of the building.
Firfighters attended and extinguished the fire, but were unable to conduct a full investigation because the area was deemed unsafe.
Police will examine the scene today after a hazardous materials team tests air quality.
Seniors members of the Polish White Eagle Club have been locked in a dispute since at least 2009 over transfers of money from the local sub-branch to the national Polish Ex-Serviceman’s Association and moves to dissolve the local sub-branch, which has a dwindling number of members.
