Police investigate Polish Club fire

POLICE are investigating the cause of a fire at the Polish White Eagle Club in O’Connor at about 2am this morning.

Police afp copsAround 2.05am, police responded to reports of a structure fire at club on David Street and arrived to find a significant amount of smoke coming from the rear of the building.

Firfighters attended and extinguished the fire, but were unable to conduct a full investigation because the area was deemed unsafe.

Police will examine the scene today after a hazardous materials team tests air quality.

Seniors members of the Polish White Eagle Club have been locked in a dispute since at least 2009 over transfers of money from the local sub-branch to the national Polish Ex-Serviceman’s Association and moves to dissolve the local sub-branch, which has a dwindling number of members.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in O’Connor early this morning can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
