Police investigate ‘suspicious’ grass fire

POLICE would like to speak with the driver of a black Toyota after a suspicious grass fire in Pierces Creek State Forest last night.

About 8.30pm, police received a call of a fire burning near Settlement Road, east of the Cotter Reserve, which was approximately 800 metres by 500 metres in size.

ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire around 3am. No properties were damaged.

ACT Policing is investigating the incident as “suspicious’ and would like to speak with the driver of a black Toyota sedan that was seen in the area about 6.30pm last night.

“The car is distinctive, featuring a high rise spoiler, three red mag wheels and one silver rear mag wheel,” says a police spokesperson.

AFP Forensics will attend the forest today to examine the scene.

Anyone who may have information regarding the incident or may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area prior to the blaze are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
