Several charities in Canberra today were presented with a share of $75,000 following the success of the 2014 annual Australian Federal Police Charity Golf Day.

More than 280 golfers, including members of the Australian Federal Police, put their handicap to the test to raise much needed funds for local charities.

Organisations to benefit from the 2014 fundraiser include Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT, Palliative Care ACT, Police Welfare Fund, Carers ACT, Home In Canberra and the ACT Cerebral Palsy Alliance who will share in $67,000. The remainder of the money will be used to support other charities throughout the year.

Chief Police Officer for the ACT Rudi Lammers, who presented each organisation with a cheque today, said that the Australian Federal Police was proud to be able to support charities who provide members in our community with assistance.

“For more than thirty years, this event has been organised by the ACT branch of the AFP Golf Club to raise much-needed funds for charities in Canberra,” Chief Police Officer Lammers said.

“The generosity and support by the sponsors is greatly appreciated and I would also like to thank the Canberra community for their continued support of this event.”

Executive Officer of the Ronald McDonald House in Canberra, Deirdre Brown said the funds donated by the AFP would ensure more families of seriously ill children had that is more than just a bed for the night.

The event would not be possible without the generous support of 50 corporate sponsors on the day and six major sponsors including Audi Centre Canberra, McDonald’s, Federal Golf Club, ACTTAB, Reis and James Travel Associates and the Australian Federal Police Association.
