Queanbeyan Council raffling two tonnes of firewood!

QUEANBEYAN Council is running courses on how to get the best from a wood fired heater.

They’re intended to give the community an opportunity to see live demonstrations from a member of the Australian Home Heating Association and learn proper techniques to not only reduce the amount of smoke pollution but also save money by reducing the amount of wood used to fuel the heater all night.

“Woodsmoke in Australia is a problem in many towns and cities on very cold, still nights. The colder temperatures mean that more people leave their woodheaters burning overnight. To keep them burning, the firebox is often loaded so full of wood the fire is starved of oxygen. This causes the woodheater to smoulder and produce a lot of smoke,” Mayor Overall.

QCC will be raffling up ten free chimney sweeps and two tonnes of free firewood. All you have to do to be in the draw is attend one of the workshops.

The workshops are being held at 9:45am and 6pm on Tuesday 20 May at Fyshwick Home Heating; 88 Wollongong Street, Fyshwick.

Free transportation from Queanbeyan City Council to the workshop can be provided for attendees of the morning session.

Please RSVP to Sustainability and Better Living by either calling 02 6285 6246 or emailing Jennie.Wetmiller@qcc.nsw.gov.au.
