AS April Fools’ season draws near, it’s time for Australia’s largest open-mic competition, RAW Comedy, with heats running all around the country.

The second and final Canberra heat is coming up at Tilley’s this Saturday,  March 1, hosted by comedian Nick Cody, who is praised by his admirers as “hilariously inappropriate”.

The battle will feature aspirant comedians with their funniest 5 minutes and all Canberrans are invited to cheer them on. With over 20 comics in every heat, the festival boasts, “that’s less than a dollar per comedian, give or take”.

RAW Comedy can justly claim to have launched the careers of countless comedians since 1996 including Chris Lilley, Josh Thomas, Hannah Gadsby, Peter Helliar, Ronny Chieng and Tim Minchin.

And where does it all lead? The National RAW Comedy Grand Final will take place as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Sunday, April 13.

RAW Comedy 2014: Canberra Heat, 8pm (Doors 7.30pm) Saturday,  March 1, Tilley’s, Wattle St Lyneham,  tickets at the door.
