Respiratory warning as urban burns continue

CONTROLLED burns at Black Mountain and O’Connor continued today with ACT Parks and Conservation Service warning people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases not to perform vigorous exercise and to stay inside if affected by the smoke.

People with asthma, in particular, should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.

As of this morning the service had 21.5 hectares of burning left to complete at Black Mountain and in O’Connor, where backburning started in December, there was about seven hectares left to go.
