police

ACT Policing has arrested a 45-year-old NSW man following an incident of road rage in Mitchell this morning (Monday, June 16).

About 7.20am, the driver of a black station wagon rammed the vehicle into a white sedan a number of times on the Federal Highway near Exhibition Park. Both vehicles then stopped on Flemington Road, Mitchell, where the driver of the black station wagon threatened the other driver with a machete before striking the white sedan several times, smashing the rear window.

The incident was reported to police immediately and police arrived on site at 7.30am, locating the black station wagon nearby.

The 45-year-old NSW man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House. The will be charged with offences relating to menacing driving, assault and property damage and will face the ACT Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Given the time of day, police believe there may be witnesses to the road rage incident on the Federal Highway, and the assault and property damage incidents on Flemington Road, Mitchell.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
