CHIEF Minister Katy Gallagher has kicked off a round of public consultation over plans for the long awaited Secure Mental Health Unit.

“A community information session about the Preliminary Sketch Plan will be held at 6.00pm on Wednesday, 21 May 2014 in the Aegean Room, Hellenic Club, Woden. The information session will be facilitated by Dr Norman Swan, ABC Health Presenter, and will feature a Q&A panel discussion,” Katy said.

“Members of the community can view high level plans and artist impressions showing the overall layout and presentation of the Secure Mental Health Unit. The unit will be located at the former Quamby Youth Detention Centre site in Symonston and will be a 25 bed facility that co-locates acute and rehabilitation beds.

“The ACT performs well in the provision of mental health services to the Canberra community but the secure mental health unit is the remaining missing piece of the puzzle.”
