ACT Policing has released the details of nine vehicles located in the area of a serious collision in Phillip on Sunday August 3, in a bid to urge witnesses to come forward.

Around 5.45pm, police attended Melrose Drive, Phillip, after reports of a head-on collision between a white Mercedes and silver Mercedes.

CCTV has revealed that the following vehicles were in the immediate vicinity at the time and the occupants may have witnessed the collision.

Travelling southbound on Melrose Drive
— A modern large white 4 door sedan
— A modern white dual cab utility, possibly a diesel 4×4, towing a trailer with high mounted racks and a long load restrained to the racks
— A medium red 4 door sedan

— A white medium sedan wagon
— A Dark medium hatchback or wagon.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations Craig McPherson said it was possible the ‘by-stander effect’ was discouraging witnesses from coming forward.

“We know that there were a number of other drivers in the area at the time of the collision and it’s possible that they’re all assuming that someone else has already spoken with police.”

“It’s very important, if you witness a collision, to at least contact police and provide your details. You might not realise that you have a vital piece of the puzzle.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has yet to speak to police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
