Shop busted in synthetic-drugs raid

POLICE have seized alleged synthetic cannabinoids during a search of the Butts and Brew store in Calwell after receiving information from the public yesterday (Tuesday, 23 December) afternoon.

policeAbout 3.40pm, detectives seized 285 1.5gram bags of “Rush” brand packets of synthetic cannabinoids.
Earlier this year police seized 520 various brands and sized packets of synthetic cannabinoids during simultaneous search warrants executed on three retail outlets throughout Canberra. The value of the synthetic cannabinoids was estimated to be $25,000.

Police say business owners that they have a responsibility to be aware of the content of products they are selling. The sale of synthetic drugs in the ACT is illegal.

If business owners are unsure of the content of their products then they need to consider removing them from their store completely or seek advice from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Penalties of up to five years in prison and/or fines of up to $55 000 for individuals and $275 000 for businesses may apply if the substances are proven to be illegal.

The Butts and Brew in Caldwell has no affiliation with the store of the same name in Kaleen.
