Social event of the week / Children’s Medical Research Institute annual lunch

CARWOOLA on the road to Captain’s Flat is a magnificent property with a fascinating history and owners who treasure every aspect of it.

They have worked for many years to restore and rebuild this Georgian-style homestead and old-growth garden; repairing, refurbishing and planting for the future.

Opening the grounds to a caravanserai of eager and energetic ladies for the annual Children’s Medical Research Institute fundraising lunch may have been daunting for owners Rob Purves and Bronwyn Darlington but the expertise of the committee, learnt over many years from former committees who refined the formula to an exact art, involves a formidable effort and smart business acumen to make it work.

So the cars came, the guests trod the newly mown paddock to the lush, cool garden and settled in with their chairs and tables before doing the rounds of the stalls selling Christmas goodies and decorations, jams, jellies, preserves and the distinctive CMRI paraphernalia before lining up for lunch.

Accompanied by the famous lunch punch, a few bubbles and copious amounts of water, the most anticipated part of this lunch, the petit fours, were distributed to every corner of the garden before the mass exit. And order was restored.
