Speedster slapped with 12 demerit points

AS the first week of the driving double demerits period ends, a 20-year-old fool from Ngunnawal was caught speeding more than 50kph over the limit on Monday afternoon (December 29).

Police-car-0574-175x175Police say the man’s ute, travelling on Gungahlin Drive, Aranda, was clocked at 142kph in a 90kph zone.

The driver was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice, a fine of $1811 and 12 demerit points.

“With double demerits in effect until midnight this Sunday, motorists should think carefully about what it would mean to them if they lost their licence,” warned police spokesperson Sgt Tracey Duck. “More to the point, what it could mean if they or their loved ones were involved in a serious collision as a result of dangerous driving.”

Double demerits continue until midnight, Sunday, January 4.
