TUGGERANONG Arts Centre and the Canberra Blind Society are looking for members of the blind and vision-impaired community to become involved in “Touch”, a new tactile art project to be presented in total darkness.

The centre’s Chief Executive Officer, Rauny Worm, said the participants would take part in 12 workshops from April to June, sharing their perceptions of form, texture and colour.

She added, “The audience will gain a touch of insight into a world with limited or no vision. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the environment created by the participants; we’re calling it ‘the best installation you’ll never see’.”

The workshops will be conducted by local visual artist Tony Steel and will involve the creation of tactile artworks that will form “Touch”, an installation at the Canberra Theatre Centre’s Courtyard Studio from  June 29 to  July 12.

“’Touch’ is an ambitious project that will remove the traditional restrictions between the public and works of art, inviting audience members to become active participants, not just spectators,” Steel said.
