Three month passes for park and ride

THOSE brave enough to still catch buses after yesterday’s revelations will be pleased to hear that quarterly park and ride permits are coming.

“Park and ride makes it easier for Canberrans to get to commute each day. We’ve made the service easier to use by introducing three month permits to replace the existing one month permit,” Shane Rattenbury said.

“Park and ride permits allow Canberrans to drive part way to their destination, park for free in a dedicated space, and complete the rest of their journey by bus.

“These facilities make catching a bus in Canberra easy and convenient and give commuters the option to save time and money without the hassle of navigating morning traffic or finding a car park.

“Of the 18 park and ride sites across Canberra, eight have spaces set aside especially for permit holders. Two are located in Belconnen and one each in Bruce, Gungahlin, Woden, Tuggeranong, Mawson and Mitchell.

“Other park and ride facilities are located at Flemington Road in Mitchell, Charnwood Shopping Centre, Gungahlin Marketplace, Kippax Centre, Jamison Centre, Curtin Shops, Kambah Centre, Kambah Village Shops, Chisholm Shops, Calwell Shops and North Weston.

“A number of park and ride sites also cater to cyclists, by including bike and ride facilities such as bike racks or a bike cage. The cages are easily recognised by the bright orange bicycle sign on the roof.

“With permit renewal only required every quarter, it’s another good reason for commuters to give Canberra’s park and rides a try,” Shane concluded.
