“LANDSCAPES & Still Life, watercolours by Camelia Smith & Isla Patterson,” is opening at 3pm this Sunday June 1 at Sweet Copper in the old Ginninderra School House, Gold Creek and running during the month of June. Each month, Patterson tells us, is set aside for different artists.

THE annual Radford College Art Exhibition and Sale, ArtShow @ Radford, is on again from May 30 to June 1 at the TB Millar Hall, Radford College, 1 College Street, Bruce. Harriet Elvin, CEO of the ACT Cultural Facilities Corporation, will be guest speaker at the Gala Opening tomorrow, Friday at 7.30pm. Her speech will be followed by a champagne supper and live music performed by local band MP4. Entry $20 for adults and $10 for under 12s with tickets at the door. The exhibition and sale will continue over Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Entry is by gold coin donation.


The MS Walk + Fun Run is on June 1, part of the ‘SeeingMS’ campaign which is aimed at getting the message out about the invisible symptoms of this condition. Canberra participants will be wearing red. The warmup for the run begins at 850 and the warmup for the walk begins at 1025, setting off from Rond Terraces in Commonwealth Park and takes a scenic route around Lake Burley Griffin. There will be morning tea and water stops and roving entertainers along the way, and post-walk/run entertainment for the whole family.

ARTIST Julie Bradley and sculptor Mike MacGregor have an exhibition at Form gallery in Aurora Street Queanbeyan responding to Bradley’s theme of “the man in the forest.” While Bradley has been strongly influenced by ancient Druid mythology to play with the idea of the tree expressed in human form in collages and works on paper, MacGregor’s extraordinary creations show the pull between people and the natural world.


Visitors to Canberra Glassworks in Wentworth Avenue, Kingston this Sunday, June 1, will be able to see technical manager Tom Rowney turning off the tank furnace in the Hotshop for the first time in seven years. The tank furnace holds 350 kg of molten glass at any given time and it runs 24 hours per day, but it’s time for a refurbishment – all in the view of the public. As well, Nick Mount’s amazing exhibition, “The Fabric of Work,” is still running until June 19, 10am – 4pm Wednesday to Sunday. Also, every weekend, it can make your own glass bird or paperweight.


THE irrepressible Mikelangelo – one of Canberra’s brightest exports – will be performing new songs from his forthcoming album, “Solo, Intimate and up Close,” at the Artists Shed 14 foster Street Queanbeyan, 7:30 PM this Friday, May 30. THE beauty of the Brindabellas is the subject of a new film of the same name previewing at the Arc Cinema, National Film and Sound Archive, McCoy Cct Acton tomorrow, Friday, May 30, 5:30-6:30pm. Canberra filmmakers Glen Ryan and James van der Moezel present a motion piece filmed using RED digital cinema cameras. Free entry, but bookings to 6248 2000.

Detailed patterns and a refined colour palette form the basis of her recent work, exploring ideas of simplicity, minimalism and functionality within our living environments. M16Artspace at 21 Blaxland Cres, Griffith has new exhibitions opening this evening. Thursday May 29 at 6pm, all welcome, and running to Wednesday – Sunday, 12 – 5pm until June 15. “The River Tiger & the Wood Ox” is design from the concept-film of the same name, directed by Kate Llewellyn and shot at Street Theatre Canberra. The exhibition features period costumes, set design and scenery pieces, props, puppets, miniature models, photography and film. Running concurrently are “Hues and harmonies” by Jeni Hawes and “Internal – External,” by Andrew Grenfell. CHILEAN born printmaker Christina Cordero has developed her unique style of art making through years of travel and exploration. THE Molonglo Catchment Art Exhibition opens at the Queanbeyan Art Society Gallery, 6 Trinculo Place Queanbeyan (under the bridge on the bank of the Queanbeyan River), this Sunday, June 1 at 2pm and runs until June 28. All welcome to the opening.
