CHRIS Bourke has taken receipt of a giant novelty cheque for the Canberra & Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group thanks to the actor Samuel Johnson and his 15478km fundraising unicycle ride around Australia.

“I am pleased to be here today as part of this event and to acknowledge the significant effort of well known Australian actor Samuel Johnson who has so far raised $1.75 million for cancer research by riding his unicycle 15478km around Australia breaking the word record,” Chris said.

“Samuel’s journey started when his sister Connie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, they both started the Love Your Sister campaign to raise awareness of Breast Cancer and to raise money for breast cancer research in a hope to finding a cure” Dr Bourke said.

“Love Your Sister and Garvan Research Institute have provided a donation of $200,000 to the Cancer Support Group today, which was a commitment from Connie at the beginning of this campaign.

“The Garvan Research Institute will be establishing the “Connie Johnson Fellowship” for future researchers involved in breast cancer research”.

“The Cancer Support Group has provided support to Connie for many years and continues to provide support for cancer patients and their families throughout Canberra and Queanbeyan” Dr Bourke said.
