Who wants to be on the Climate Change Council?

Simon Corbell

SIMON Corbell is seeking applications from Canberrans who want to join the ACT Climate Change Council.

“The members of the ACT’s first Climate Change Council have engaged with business and the community and provided me with considered, strategic and useful advice on matters relating to climate change.

“The council, led by inaugural chair Professor Barbara Norman, plays a key role in shaping our thinking on climate change policy for the territory.

“I am seeking interest from people with relevant expertise and a passion for sustainability to support the government’s work in transforming our city into a low carbon economy and increasing its sustainability.”

Council members will represent a variety of groups, including community, business and people who are socially or financially disadvantaged, and across multiple interests such as climate change science, environmental management, the built environment and transport.

Council members are appointed by the minister for a three-year term and receive a sitting fee when they meet. Appointments commence from the first meeting in November 2014, with approximately four meetings per year.

Applications close on Sunday 3 August 2014.
