CHIEF Minister Katy Gallagher says uncertainty in the Commonwealth public service has contributed to the territory’s weak economic performance.

A State of the States report released yesterday by CommSec showed the ACT had the second weakest trend in annual economic growth.

Ms Gallagher reportedly told Fairfax “not a great deal” can be done until the Commonwealth government makes “some decisions.”

But Shadow Treasurer Brendan Smyth says the report shows the ACT is “missing out” on essential business investment while the retail sector is also getting weaker.

“Construction work in the ACT is more than 16 percent below the decade average and only Tasmania is faring worse in the annual economic growth stakes,” Mr Smyth says.

“The ACT government has to be held accountable for the deterioration in business investment because ACT Labor has taken no steps to diversify the Territory economy.
