Wet weather warning as floods predicted

The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) is asking the community to be vigilant as a possible wet weather event could eventuate tomorrow and Friday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised of likely rainfall with the possibility of significant falls across the ACT from Thursday evening into Friday.

In the event of significant rainfall from thunderstorm activity, the ACTSES advise to avoid walking, riding or driving through fast flowing water and to ensure children do not play near stormwater systems.

The ACTSES remind residents to have regular roof maintenance checks from contractors, with particular attention to skylights, air conditioning units or other roof additions and to ensure gutters and drains are cleared of any debris.

ACTSES volunteers will be at the ready to assist the community on the possible impact a wet weather event could bring.

Residents can call the ACTSES on 132 500 for any storm or flood assistance.

‘a wet weather event’ ?? Can’t we speak plain English? It’s gonna rain – may be drizzle, showers or heavy thunderstorms, but it ain’t a ‘wet weather event’.
