The Windsong Pavilion at Bermagui now open for public performance

CANBERRANS who regularly head for the coast are no doubt familiar with Bermagui’s Four Winds Festival – in fact Canberra accounts for 30 per cent of the audience.

News is that the Four Winds’ striking new addition, ‘The Windsong Pavilion’, a purpose-built indoor performance space by architect Clinton Murray, is now available for public performances.

The festival is not about to let this go unnoticed and a public jazz concert this Sunday will mark the occasion.

Fitting the community slant of the festival, the local group Zephyrs Jazz will take the reins, and they’ve invited ARIA-nominated Alister Spence Trio from Sydney to perform — Alister Spence on grand piano and samples, Lloyd Swanton on double bass and Toby Hall on drums and glockenspiel.

Zephyrs president, Roger Stuart, says, “we are proud to be able to introduce such a fine and famous band to the region and to present them as the first public performance in the Windsong Pavilion. It will be a perfect fit of compelling, acoustically rich live music with a venue with faultless acoustics”.

The idea is for audience members to bring a picnic lunch for before the performance then join in Zephyrs’ traditional post-concert chat with the musicians and other audience members over drinks and fine local foods.

Four Winds Chair, Sheena Boughen notes that that Canberrans will enjoy Bermagui’s warmer winter climate.

The Windsong Pavilion is at the Four Winds site, Four Winds Road, Barragga Bay, 9 kms south of Bermagui. The gates will open at midday on June 29 and the concert starts at 2pm. Bookings to zephyrsjazz.com.au s
