50 years of St Clare’s

50th-hi-res

ST CLARE’S College in Griffith is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015. Since opening its doors 50 years ago the college has seen over 10,000 girls, 10 principals and hundreds of staff walk its corridors. Not to mention a few uniform changes and multiple renovations and extensions.

Catholic Girls’ High School Griffith (as St Clare’s was originally known) was officially opened by the Federal Education Minister, Senator John Gorton on 30th May 1965 with 185 students. The college now has over 1000 students and times may have changed but the tradition of striving to provide an excellent environment for young women to grow academically, socially, spiritually and personally has remained the same.

All ex-students, staff and parents are invited to attend a Gala Dinner on Saturday May 30 at the National Convention Centre.

Tickets are $95 and include a three course meal, dancing, a chance to catch up with old friends and staff and lots of fun!

A Mass and fair will also be held on Sunday May 31 from 11am at the College.

The 50 year anniversary is also a chance to acknowledge students from St Clare’s have gone on to do many remarkable things in the Canberra and wider Australian community and boast nurses, teachers, engineers, doctors, scientists, sportspeople, fashion designers, public servants, lawyers, artists, defence force personnel, humanitarians, writers, accountants, photographers, small business owners, mothers and countless other professions and interests among its alumni.

More information on the anniversary celebrations are available on the St Clare’s College website: www.stcc.act.edu.au or the ‘St Clare’s College 50th Anniversary’ page on Facebook.
