JEREMY Hanson says new data shows the ACT’s public hospitals have the highest rate of potentially deadly golden staph infections in the country.
“As the Barr government becomes increasingly focused on light rail and grappling with the chaos caused by the Joy Burch saga, the health system continues to languish,” Jeremy said.
“Data released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) today shows the number of cases and infection rates reduced nationally in 2014-15, but the ACT recorded the highest rate of infection at 0.84 cases per 10,000 days of patient care (30 cases). This compares with NSW at 0.78 and Victoria at 0.74.
“As Simon Corbell is forced to take on a heavier burden in Andrew Barr’s Cabinet following the resignation of Joy Burch this week, the health system will get even less attention from this government.
“The future is not bright for the ACT Health system under Andrew Barr. We have the worst ED waiting times in the country, the toxic cultures remains and light rail is the government’s only priority.
“Andrew Barr and Simon Corbell are now dealing with an unstable government and unfortunately the health system seems to be the furthest thing from their minds,” Mr Hanson concluded.
