A dryer catches fire in Mitchell

FIREFIGHTERS are currently ventilating a building at Capital Linen, Sandford Street, Mitchell following a small fire in an industrial dryer.

The fire has been extinguished.

89 staff have been evacuated whilst ACT Fire & Rescue crews clear the smoke from the premises.

Fire damage contained to the dryer with no damage to the building.

Update to follow.

There were no injuries.

ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the fire following an Emergency Triple Zero (000) call at 9.50am.

Three fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van, the Hazardous Materials Unit and One Commander attended the scene.

Firefighters are conducting atmospheric monitoring and expect staff to return to the building shortly.
