Anzac Day bus services

FOR Anzac Day ACTION is offering free special services to the dawn service and the national ceremony plus free bus travel for anyone wearing a service medal on regular route services.

A Sunday bus timetable will operate on Anzac Day.

“Canberrans are invited to catch a free ACTION bus to the Anzac Day dawn service and national ceremony at the Australian War Memorial on Saturday 25 April 2015,” Chief Operating Officer Bren Burkevics said.

“Buses to the dawn service will depart from Gungahlin, Woden, City and Belconnen bus stations to the Australian War Memorial from 3.45 am and from Tuggeranong bus station from 3:30 am.

“Services will also depart from Majura Park, Russell Hill Car Park and the Canberra Centre to the War Memorial between 3.30 am and 4.45 am for the dawn service and between 8.30 am and 9.45 am for the national ceremony.

“Return services will commence shortly after the conclusion of each ceremony.

“Parking at the War Memorial will be limited so if you are planning on driving, consider combining car and bus travel. All special services will be wheelchair accessible.”

On Monday 27 April 2015 ACTION buses will run to a Saturday timetable due to the day being declared a public holiday for ACT Government staff, including ACTION drivers. All bus travel will be free of charge on Monday 27 April.

Over 200 ACTION bus drivers have volunteered to work, which means ACTION will be able to operate a Saturday timetable, with some additional 900 and 950 Rapid services, which are the equivalent to the weekday Red and Blue Rapids. A Saturday timetable provides services from 6.30 am to 11.30 pm.

“Where possible, we suggest passengers use the 900 and 950 Rapid services which offer increased frequency, capacity and certainty. The 900 and 950 Rapid routes are also conveniently located near Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities,” Mr Burkevics concluded.

No dedicated school bus services will operate on Monday 27 April.
