Arts in the City / Birthday comes a metre at a time

MEGALO Print Studio is pulling all the stops out to celebrate its birthday by creating the world’s longest screen print, 35 metres long – one metre for every year, to be unveiled by Chief Minister Andrew Barr. Megalo began at Ainslie Village, moved to Hackett Primary then later to Canberra Technology Park in Watson, finally finding a permanent home in the trendy Kingston Arts Precinct. It’s holding an open day at its Wentworth Avenue, Kingston, centre, 11am-2pm, on Saturday, December 12. All are welcome.

EXPECT Caribbean calypso steel drums, African drums, Indonesian Gamelan, marching drumline and the drum kit in all its splendour when percussion guru Gary France and his Groove Warehouse present “the power and majesty of the world of percussion” in their first Christmas spectacular, “The Power of Drum”, with a finale composed by Sandy France. TEATRO Vivaldi, at the ANU Arts Centre, so we hear, is selling out fast with its pre-Christmas show, “Baby Boomers the Musical”, a revue written and directed by Louise Rostron that tracks, musically, the decades since World War II. BELCONNEN Arts Centre’s Christmas Market is almost upon us with designers’ wares and gifts, music, food and drinks outdoors by Lake Ginninderra. And for the first time, a wine-tasting lounge. Noon-5pm, Sunday, December 6. All welcome.

“HOME in Time”, at Canberra Museum and Gallery, will be opened on December 11 by Tim Reeves and Alan Roberts, authors of “100 Capital Houses: A Century of Capital Architecture”, a book about Canberra architecture from 1913 to 2013 written as a centenary project.
