CANBERRA framer Cathy Webster has won first prize in the Australian and NZ framing competition at the Art and Framing Trade Show in Sydney. Webster, a co-owner of Framing Matters, Manuka, is a regular frontrunner in this key industry event.

THE Griffyn Ensemble will head to Aberdeen, in far-north Scotland, next month to perform the suite, “Southern Sky,” premiered during 2013 in the ruins of Mt Stromlo.

THE Australian Institute of Architects ACT Chapter is hosting four Australian architects to present their work Wednesday evenings through September at the National Gallery. Speakers are from Charles Wright Architects, MAKE Architecture, Elenberg Fraser and Tribe Studio. Bookings to nga.gov.au/architects

“THE Distant Warriors: Ka Maumahara (We Will Remember) Let Us Not Be Forgotten” is an exhibition at Canberra Glassworks inspired by the stories of indigenous Australian and Maori soldiers. The curator is Kelli Cole and ACT artists Jenni Kemarre Martiniello, Lyndy Delian, Joyce Graham, Allison Hoolihan, Hayley Hoolihan, Lyn Talbot and Jenny Dries will join Victoria’s Treahna Hamm and Maori weavers Ruth Port and Mandy Sunlight to create a formidable statement. September 9-November 19.

BEST known as part of the ‘80s group The Warumpi Band and for writing the classic Aussie song of the tropics, “My Island Home”, singer-songwriter Neil Murray will be at The Street on Saturday, September 12, featuring his latest album, “Bring Thunder and Rain”. Bookings to thestreet.org.au or 6247 1223.

THE annual exhibition of the Embroiderers’ Guild ACT will be held at the Albert Hall, 10am-4pm, September 11-13. It features a special story board on the making of Princess Charlotte’s blanket. There’ll also be recycled items, sewing gadgets, café, vintage and recycle shop, and gift shop.

WOMEN’S vocal ensemble Polifemy will perform Renaissance music for the next concert in the High Court, 1.30pm, on Sunday, September 6. Polifemy will be joined by the male vocal ensemble The Renaissance Men and the concert will include a performance of Britten’s “Advance Democracy”.
