“DANCE on the Edge” sees Belconnen Arts Centre marking Dance Week 2015 with performances by Alison Plevey, Emma Strapps, Holly Diggle, Rachael Hilton and Melissa Lee, GOLDS and QL2 Youth Dancers. It’s at BAC, 8pm, on May 9 and 2pm, on May 10. There’s a Dance Week workshop, 11am-12.30pm, on May 10. Bookings via belconnenartscentre.com.au

“CANBERRA’S most unique music festival,” is playing at The Basement, Belconnen, on May 15. Festival 15 only ever takes place on Friday the 15th and this year that means it’s on 15/05/15. There’ll be 15 bands each playing 15-minute sets and it’ll cost $15. Tickets at the door.

ARTIST Alex Boynes has emailed us about “The Warming” and “An Anthropocene Cabinet of Curiosities” exhibitions showing at Australian Galleries in Collingwood, where he’s showing a new collaborative work with his mother, the artist/curator Mandy Martin. Other local identities in the show are GW Bot, Alex Asch, Mariana del Castillo and David Jensz.

CANBERRA painter and sculptor, “Byrd”, is one of more than 20 local artists donating artwork for the “VanuARTu” art auction, with Peter Haynes holding the hammer at Tuggeranong Arts Centre, 6pm, on Thursday, May 14. The ambitious idea is to raise more than $10,000 to help rebuild Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam. All funds will go to Care Australia’s appeal and the show runs until May 30.

CLAIRE Primrose, of Form Studio and Gallery, Aurora Avenue, Queanbeyan, is holding a show of her own work. Primrose is interested in the interplay between spray enamel with collected natural elements such as salt water, used to repel the paint. Open May 11 to 31.

“WARPED & Twisted” is Canberra Spinners and Weavers wondrously-titled show and sale of winter articles made from natural fibres spun to produce single fibre yarns or blends. It includes wall hangings, rugs, household linen, shawls, scarves, hats, socks, bags, garments and skeins of hand-spun yarn. At The Q Exhibition Space, Queanbeyan, May 8-16.

THE embassy of Finland will host Paavali Jumppanen, in Australia for the sixth time, in a piano recital of Debussy, Sibelius and Schumann, 7pm, May 18. Bookings to 6273 3800 or ewa.walczuk@formin.fi
