THE Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism will mark 100 years of peace between Turkey and Australia with a visit from the UNESCO-rated Sufi Music Ensemble and Whirling Dervishes of Konya performing a traditional “Mevlevi Sema” ceremony at a free concert at Llewellyn Hall, 7pm, Wednesday, October 14. PEPPI Wilson is Canberra International Music Festival’s general manager after her predecessor Kathleen Grant moved to the School of Music. Wilson has recently returned to Canberra after several years overseas and has a policy development and government relations background, though we hear she also sings.

“SPRING in the South” is a performance by the ANU Chinese Classical Musical Ensemble presented by The Australia China Friendship Society’s ACT Branch, with profits going to buy musical instruments and to support “Project Hope”, assisting poor students in rural China. At Mt Rogers Primary School, Alfred Hill Drive, Melba, 2pm, Sunday, October 11. Tickets at the door.

“CRASH Test Drama”, the popular showcase of moved readings featuring new, 10-minute plays will be seen at Theatre 3 in early November – and it’s time to declare your intentions. Scripts and expressions of interest in judging should be sent directly to crashtestdrama@buddingtheatre.com by October 14.

CANBERRA Glassworks has announced a reciprocal Asialink residency with Toyama Glass Studio in 2016. One ACT artist will have the opportunity to spend six weeks as resident at Toyama Glass Studio from April to May, supported by artsACT to the tune of $24,000. The Glassworks’ Beverly Growden says they’ll be hosting a Toyama artist from June to July.

THE chic new Muse café in the East Hotel has designated Tuesdays “literature nights”. Entry is $10 and includes a glass of wine. Next up are Susan Johnson (7.30pm, October 13) and Ramona Koval (7.30pm,  October 20). Bookings to musecanberra.com.au/events.

LOCAL entrepreneur Carl Rafferty says he has engaged Vinicius Kattah from the Vienna Mozart Orchestra to conduct and prepare his forthcoming concert “Mozart Mania” at Albert Hall, October 30-31 and November 1. All he needs is a good, paying audience, because, each weekend of concerts costs about $45,000 to present.
