CANBERRA writers are joining Folk Dance Canberra for an evening of dance, story and horror, all over wine and cheese from 7pm, Saturday, March 14, in Folk Dance Canberra’s hall, 114 Maitland Street, Hackett. Author and folk dancer Gillian Polack will read, there’ll be a book stall and Canberra’s own horror-fiction queen, Kaaron Warren, will read, fittingly just after the dances from Transylvania! PHOTOGRAPHER Margaret Kalms’ exhibition “Iconic Moon” will be opened by artsACT’s David Whitney at 6pm, Thursday, March 5, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, accompanied by poems written to 14 of her photographs by members of Canberra’s School of Music Poets. The exhibition, which continues until Saturday, March 28, shows the full moon portrayed in “playful association with Canberra’s iconic buildings”.

“YOUR sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace… After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well,” wrote Atatürk after Gallipoli, providing the inspiration for Australian Chamber Orchestra director Richard Tognetti and stage whizkids Nigel Jamieson and Neil Armfield to create “Reflections on Gallipoli” in music, voice and image. “MAGIC Happens” is an exhibition of artwork curated by John Pratt, who has been helping run the Painting with Parkinson’s group since 1997. This year marks 20 years of the innovative art program founded by Nancy Tingey. In the Visitors’ Centre, Australian National Botanic Gardens until March 16.

POETRY at The Gods’ first reading this year will feature Geoffrey Lehmann, author of “Australian Poetry Since 1788” and Jeri Kroll, who wrote the verse novel, “Vanishing Point”. At The Gods Café/Bar, ANU Arts Centre, dinner 6pm and readings 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 10.  Bookings to 6248 5538.
