“BOHEMIAN Serenade” is the romantic title of a night featuring Czech music planned by pianist Wendy Lorenz for Tuggeranong Arts Centre. She’ll be joined by violinist Andrew Lorenz, cellist David Pereira, violist Michelle Higgs and several young artists for a night of “glorious melodic lines and catchy dance rhythms”, not the least in Dvorak’s “Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major”. GO-GETTING director Kirsty Budding has taken over the co-ordination of Crash Test Drama Canberra, where new 10-minute plays are cast, rehearsed and performed script-in-hand in front of an audience and guest judges. The first Crash Test for 2015 will be at Theatre 3 on May 24 and Budding needs directors and scripts. A CHORUS of Women are almost ready with their mighty choral work, “A Passion for Peace,” commissioned from local composer Glenda Cloughley in memory of the 1300 women who attended the 1915 International Congress of Women in the same week as the Gallipoli landing. Conducted by Johanna McBride, the dramatic oratorio is being staged for the Festival for Peace, at Albert Hall, April 28-May 2 at Albert Hall. Tickets at the door.
CLASSICAL guitarist Stephanie Jones, who was named Young Virtuoso of the Year in the 2014 Fine Music Network National Competition, will perform work by composers Isaac Albéniz, Fernando Sor and Luis de Nárvaez in the Wesley’s Lunchtime Live series, 12.40pm-1.20pm, on Wednesday, April 29. “IN the Slow Lane” sounds like a leisurely title for an exhibition, but you can bet Maxine Price and Kate Hine’s exhibition of ceramic figurative sculptures and work on paper will be anything but that. At Form Studio and Gallery, 1/30 Aurora Avenue, Queanbeyan, until May 10.
