UPDATE: A statement just to hand has the festival taking off next weekend:

The inaugural World Curry Festival in the City has been postponed until next weekend, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July.

Event organisers made the decision to reschedule the event due to bad weather, with rain and cold conditions predicted for most of the weekend.

Now to coincide with the fourth weekend of Skate in the City and the end of the ACT school holidays, the World Curry Festival in the City will celebrate the diversity of Canberra’s city centre on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July.

Canberra CBD Limited CEO Jane Easthope said that the decision to reschedule the event was unfortunate, but the focus of the organisers is to ensure that everyone who participates and attends has a fantastic experience.

“Given it is the first World Curry Festival in the City, we don’t want the weather to damage what will be a first-class event,” Ms Easthope said.

Next weekend, visitors will be wowed by live cooking demonstrations, tantalise their taste buds with street food, pick up some goodies at the market stalls, and delight in a variety of live entertainment including Bollywood dancing.

Visitors can experience a range of authentic and inventive flavours from India, Nepal, Egypt, Greece and beyond throughout the weekend festival. The levels of spice ranges from mild, medium to hot and are guaranteed to satisfy the most sensitive and adventurous of palates.

Located next to the popular Skate in the City ice skating rink in Garema Place, there will be something for the whole family. It’s the perfect opportunity to combine the love of spice and ice.
