DANCER Josef Brown has a most extraordinary career for a hoofer, and he’ll be here in January to share his experiences.
Formerly a soloist with the Australian Ballet, he was also a lead with Sydney Dance Company for many years, played the original Johnny Castle in the stage adaptation of “Dirty Dancing” and on screen appeared as police officer, Matt Turner, in “Neighbours” for two years.
He’s never forgotten his dance origins, though and recently choreographed a contemporary piece for the end of year production of the National Capital Ballet School in Canberra.
Now Brown is coming to Canberra to deliver a holiday version of his two-day ‘CREATIVE CORE’ arts masterclass at the new MAKS Ballet Studios (maksbaallet.com.au) in Mitchell, founded by husband and wife duo Matthew and Katherine Shilling, also formerly of the Sydney Dance Company.
Brown has fine-tuned his masterclass program at dance school across the country, including others in Canberra.
The program combines a warm-up & fundamentals class, a stretch class and an interactive, in-depth Q&A with a classical class, a contemporary class using contemporary repertoire like “Jardi Tancat” and “In the Middle Somewhat Elevated”, a session on choreography and a drama class.
‘CREATIVE CORE’ masterclass MAKS Ballet Studios 3/56 Heffernan St, Mitchell, Saturday and Sunday January 16-17 bookings to josef@josefbrown.com.au
