Dirty water follows Macgregor water main burst

glass of water

A water main on Florey Drive in Macgregor has burst causing possible water discolouration around the surrounding suburbs – Dunlop, Charnwood, Evatt, Melba, Florey and Holt – for most of today.

ACTEW Water crews are currently at the scene of the burst main and are undertaking repairs which are expected to take a several hours.

Nearby residents are asked to minimise their water usage for today as much as they can, until repairs have completed.

Some households may experience discoloured water. The change in colour normally occurs when the natural sediment is disturbed within the pipes causing the water to take on a brown or reddish colour. This is due to redirection of water flows through the pipes.

Whilst the water remains safe to drink, it is not recommended that you drink the water if it appears, tastes or smells objectionable. Households experiencing discoloured water are advised not to use washing machines and dishwashers as it may stain clothing or clog filters.

Actew Water are encouraging residents to report any changes in colour on 6248 3111 or talktous@actew.com.au
