F-35 on display on Russell Hill next week

F35A

ON Monday March 9 to Friday March 13, a full-size mock up of the Royal Australia Air Force’s F-35A Lightening II will be placed on public display in Blamey Square, Russell.

The F-35A will provide the RAAF with a transformational fifth-generation fighter capability to replace the aging F/A-18A/B Hornets. The first Australian F-35A rolled off the production line last July at Fort Worth, Texas, in the United States and made its maiden flight last October. It will shortly be used to support pilot training at Luke Air Force Base (AFB) in Arizona.

On 26 January, 2015, Australia’s first F-35A pilot started training in the United States at Elgin Air Force Base, in Florida. The first F-35A aircraft will arrive in Australia at the end of 2018 at RAAF Base Williamtown with the first operational squadron to be established by 2020.
