Fire in Fyshwick

ACT Fire & Rescue is working to extinguish a fire at Access Recycling, Lithgow Street, Fyshwick.

The fire is in a pile of recycled material and a large plume of smoke can be seen.

ACT Fire & Rescue is warning people in the area to close windows and avoid breathing any smoke as some may be toxic.

ACT Fire & Rescue is continuing to extinguish the fire and expect to have it under control shortly.

Compressed Air Foam System tankers will also be used shortly to help extinguish the fire.

Premises downwind from the area have been advised to stay inside with windows and doors closed or leave as a precaution.

The fire has been contained and firefighters are conducting mopping up operations.

ACT Fire & Rescue will carry out atmospheric monitoring of the surrounding area to confirm the area is safe.

The fire has been extinguished and crews are continuing to dampen down the pile of recycled material to eliminate the heat build up.

ACT Fire & Rescue is continuing to undertake atmospheric monitoring of the surrounding area to confirm the area is safe.

ACT Fire & Rescue has given the all-clear after conducting atmospheric monitoring of the surrounding area.

The ACT Ambulance Service was called to also assist in operations during the fire but no patients were treated.

The cause of the fire will be investigated and ACT Fire & Rescue will depart the scene shortly.
