Fluffy house fire in Page under police investigation

fire brigade

ACT Policing is investigating a fire which engulfed a vacant Mr Fluffy house in Page last night, (Tuesday, 1 September).

When police arrived at Neumayar Street around 8.30pm, the house was well alight with parts of the ceiling collapsed and exposed to the elements. Police cordoned off the street to allow ACT Fire and Rescue to work unimpeded.

Once the fire was extinguished, Worksafe ACT arranged for safety fencing to be erected around the house.

Acting Superintendent Criminal Investigations Steve Hogarth said it appeared the fire started within the premises, however investigators will continue their work after the house has been rendered structurally safe to enter by Worksafe ACT.

“All fires are treated as suspicious until a reason for the fire can be determined either through ACT Fire Investigations or through the efforts of Forensics and Investigators. In this case we know that there was no utilities connected to the premises, including power and gas and we also know that the premises was unoccupied at the time,” he said.

Investigations will continue throughout the day.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
